The sector of the history of Belarusian literature dates back to 1952, when at the Institute of Literature and Art, on the basis of the literary sector, two were formed: the sector of Soviet and the sector of pre-revolutionary literature, which in 1963 was reorganized into the sector of pre-October literature and textual criticism, and in 1992 transformed into the department of history of ancient and modern Belarusian literature.
В результате образования в 2008 г. государственного научного учреждения “Институт языка и литературы имени Якуба Коласа и Янки Купалы Национальной академии наук Беларуси” отдел истории древней и новой белорусской литературы был преобразован в сектор истории белорусской литературы и вошел в состав отдела теории и истории литературы (приказ № 45 от 21.05.2008 г.). 1 февраля 2026 года сектор истории белорусской литературы был переименован в отдел белорусской литературы XI — XIX веков.
