Born in 1944 in the town of Vasilevich, Gomel region. Graduated from the Belarusian State University (1967). IN 1973-1998 gg. - junior, senior researcher. In 1998, he was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Philology and awarded the title of professor. From 1998 to 2007 - Deputy Director for Research, at the same time Head of the Department of Modern Belarusian Literature, since 2007 - Chief Researcher of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literary Studies branch of the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2023 ). In 2004, he was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

In 2003 he was awarded the badge “Excellence in the Press of Belarus”, and in 2004 – the Order of Francis Skaryna.

Member of the Union of Belarusian Writers (1982).

Since 1972 he has been acting as a critic and literary critic. Explores the problems of the development of Belarusian drama. Author of numerous books on the history of Belarusian literature.

Sphere of scientific interests — history of Belarusian literature of the 20th century, Belarusian drama of the 20th and 21st centuries.
