May 28, 2024 in Institute of Linguistics named after Yakub Kolas Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus a round table took place “Academic lexicalogy and lexicagraphy: achievements and prospects”, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the publication of “Tlumachalnaga Slounika Belarusskaya Mova” (1977-1984).

The director of the Institute of Linguistics named after Yakub Kolas was the first to address the audience with a welcoming speech. Igor Leonovich Kopylov. Igor Leonovich noted the role of “Tlumachalnaga Slounika Belarusian Language” in 5 volumes, 6 books, created at the Institute of Linguistics under the editorship of K. K. Atrahovich (Kondrat Krapiva), in the development of national linguistics. This publication, comprehensive for its time, contains over 105 thousand lexical units, terminological and phraseological phrases. Despite the distance of two generations of users from the moment of its release, the dictionary, as I. Kopylov correctly noted, today remains one of the most important lexicographic sources that describes the vocabulary of the modern Belarusian language as fully as possible.
